Dahlgren Half Marathon
Each Year In February

The course is organized by our friends at Arsenal Events and is an out and back that starts at the Bloomsbury Road Trailhead and heads east from the start for ~6.5 miles before turning back. The volunteers from Friends of the Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail work to ensure that the trail is in peak shape for the race!  To read prior race reports from our friends at the Fredericksburg Area Running club, click here.

Sheetz-to-Sheetz Trail Run
Each Year In March

A fun and unique running challenge, the Sheetz-to-Sheetz Trail Run is an untimed, 14-mile point-to-point run in rural King George, Virginia, benefiting local children in need. It starts at a Sheetz convenience store in the heart of the county, meanders through farmland and forest, and ends at another Sheetz store in the town of Dahlgren. The vast majority of the course is along the secluded Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail. Shuttle buses are provided to transport runners from the finish line back to the designated start line parking area. Click here to read previous years' event recap! Community Clean Up Day
Each Year in April & October

Join other dedicated Dahlgren Trail volunteers in clearing litter and brush along the section of Indiantown Road in the proximity of our trail parking area. You don't to bring anything except a happy attitude and some clothes that can get dirty! Meet at 10:00 AM at the King George American Legion located at 10021 Dahlgren Rd, King George, VA 22485. Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail 50K/Half Marathon
​Each Year in August

The race is run entirely on the Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail which is a converted railroad bed and provides solid footing with little or no roots. This trail is flat, smooth, and fast with a variety of surfaces ranging from dirt, gravel, grass, and pine needles. The course is an out and back that starts at the Bloomsbury Road Trailhead and heads east from the start for ~6.5 miles before turning back.  The volunteers from Friends of the Dahlgren Rail Heritage Trail do an excellent job of ensuring that the trail is in peak shape for the race! King George Fall Festival 10k, 5k, & 1 Mile Fun Run
Each Year in October

The King George Fall Festival Race/Run/Walk is held in conjunction with the King George Fall Festival, each year in October. the the 2nd year on the Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail.  The 10k, 5k, and 1 mile run/walk features an unofficial timed race from the Bloomsbury terminus of the trail out and back. Bottled water and snacks are provided along with fun items for the kids! This event is always a fun family event for all ages! More info can be found on the official Fall Festival website.

Caledon Art & Wine Festival
Each Year In November

For the past ten years, our friends at Caledon State Park have hosted an annual Art & Wine Festival to share and promote our region's artisans, wineries, breweries, and musicians. Upcoming events will feature live music, local food trucks and vendors, painters, potters, crafts, and opportunities to sample the community's finest beer, wines, and other unique beverages. Proceeds from the event directly support the Friends of Caledon State Park and corresponding park improvements and public programming. To learn more about the Friends of Caledon, please click here.

The Big WOW (​Walk on Wilson Disease)
September 25, 2021

The Big WOW (Walk On Wilson) is an annual, international event sponsored by the Wilson Disease Association. An educational, community supporting, and fundraising walk is hosted at a variety of sites around the world each year, and the Dahlgren Trail has been participating since the inception of the event. The Wilson Disease Association funds research and facilitates and promotes the identification, education, treatment, and support of patients and other individuals affected by Wilson disease. Outdoor Adventure Day
September 11, 2021

We are proud to join the Friends of Caledon State Park to bring you Outdoor Adventure Day and September 11th Remembrance. For this one day only, explore 27 miles of Caledon State Park and the Dahlgren Trail by bike or on foot. There will be ranger led programs, live animal demonstrations, scavenger hunts, local vendors, food trucks, and our good friends from Bike Works on site to help you and your bike tackle the adventure safely and enjoyably! The event kicks off at 9 AM at Caledon State Park!
